Master degree program

The master's degree program covers

  • Two topic areas (60 ECTS credits)
  • Methodology courses (10 ECTS credits)
  • Compulsory optional courses (10 ECTS credits)

Topic areas

By selecting the academic field, you determine the special qualification topic of your studies. Each office within the Institute offers three different major modules from their field.

There are two options for combining the two selected areas:

Option 1: Two main areas

The material central to an academic field is covered in the main areas. If you choose two main areas, each with 30 ECTS credits, you will attain a comparable level of competence in both academic fields.

Option 2: Main/in-depth and supplementary area

The main/in-depth area amounts to 45 ECTS credits and focuses clearly on a special qualification within the master's degree program. The supplementary area (15 ECTS credits) completes the master's program and usually consists of basic courses in the academic field concerned.

Variante 2: Haupt-, Vertiefungs-, sowie Ergänzungsbereich

Methodology courses

These are mainly methodology seminars offered by the offices covering the particular academic fields, and a course in diagnostics. The methodology courses in total earn 10 ECTS credits.

Please note:

  • Students who completed their bachelor's degree in Psychology at the University of Bern in accordance with the plan of studies for 2008 must attend "Statistics III" (5 ECTS credits). The Diagnostics lecture or a Methodology seminar (5 ECTS credits) can be chosen as an option.
  • Students who completed their bachelor's degree in Psychology at the University of Bern in accordance with the plan of studies for 2015 must attend the Diagnostics lecture (5 ECTS credits). Students must also choose a Methodology seminar (5 ECTS credits).

Compulsory elective courses

Electives should enable students to gain a small insight into other academic fields.

Elective courses must be completed as part of the master's degree program in Psychology, Education or Sport Science. Bachelor's courses and courses provided by other faculties are not permitted.

If you select two main modules, you should also allow for courses from these offices in your electives. However, electives may not be recognized if the course is from the chosen main/in-depth module.
